The Captain's Drive-in
The Captain's Drive-in took place on Saturday, March 28th when the traditional Needle Match between the Captain and Vice-Captain launches the new golfing season. In the Red Corner was Lady Captain Rhona McGeoghegan, very sportif, right down to her dazzling red golf shoes. In the Blue corner was Vice -Captain Kay Finlay, hoping to start the season with a winning score.
Pic shows David Grant, Vice Captain, Eric Gray, Captain, with Rhona and Kay
And the Winner is ...... it was tight, but after a nail-biting re-count, the Lady Captain gracefully announced that the Blues had edged home by a very narrow margin. The Vice Captain’s team now hold Pat’s Putter for season 2010 - 2011. ( To put new members in the picture - Pat’s Putter was presented to the Club by Mr Pat Barron, the founder of Strathmore Golf Centre and is awarded to the winners of the annual Captain versus Vice Captain match).
To round off the day members were treated to a marvellous buffet, compliments of Strathmore Golf Centre. It was a great way to start the season, let's hope the weather improves soon and we can all get cracking and play some GOLF!
There were no nerves as the Lady Captain launched into a cracking drive down the first fairway....but with shoes like these, how could she fail? The flag nearest to Rhona's drive was placed by Dawn Butchart.
The Men’s Captain, Eric Gray, also produced a fizzing drive, nowhere near the flags placed in the bunkers by some male jokers. Ally Lowe placed the winning flag near Eric’s drive.
A big thanks to Joan and Ian McCouig for selling the flags to raise around £140 for the Captain’s charities

WELCOME NIGHT
Our Lady Captain, Rhona, welcomed over 40 ladies to an evening of entertainment in the clubhouse.Five new members joined us and it is hoped that we will soon see them out on the course and joining in all the club events.
The evening started with a light-hearted golfing quiz which got everyone mixing and chatting. The winner of the quiz was Carol McLean.
Entertainment was then provided by "Kirkwhistle", a musical group from Auchterhouse whose star was none other than our own club champion, Judy Goodfellow.Judy had everyone singing along to some well-known songs and to some with familiar tunes but new words - with a golfing theme- written by Judy herself. Our champion has proved herself to be talented in ways other than golf!! (Are there any other talented members out there that we don't know about?)
The evening was rounded off with a delicious buffet and glass of wine provided by our ever generous course owners.
We wish you all a very happy and friendly season at Strathmore and hope you enjoy some great golf along the way.
