Marion Robertson was the only Strathmore player to make it to the semi finals of the County Championship which was held at Blairgowrie Golf Club this weekend. Marion won a very close quarter final against Fiona Johnston (Alyth) at the 21st hole. On Sunday she played Carol Turner (Alyth) (picture above) and although played very well, lost 3 &2. Carol went on to win the Final in the afternoon. It has to be said that Marion did have a super caddy in Rhona McGeoghegan who kindly assisted Marion on both days.
Lucy Gilmore lost her match in the handicap section against Janey Heaney (Callander) and Dawn Butchart who qualified in the scratch section was beaten by the number one seed Jacqueline Snedon (Alyth). Marion Robertson is top seed in the Handicap Section of the Perth and Kinross County Championship. When all of us struggled round a blustery Landsdowne course Marion was one of only three players, out of the 114 who took part, to score below their handicap. Well done Marion.
Strathmore also have another two players who have reached the finals. Lucy Gilmour also qualified for the last eight of the handicap and Dawn Butchart qualified in the Scratch section of the competition.
The handicap section will play one round on Saturday and the winners will go through to the semi finals on Rosemount on Sunday morning and the final in the afternoon. The scratch section have 16 qualifiers and will play two rounds of matchplay on both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday will be on Landsdowne and Sunday on Rosemount.
Every other lady will be pleased to hear that it was a reduction only competition, CSS 76. Therefore Marion will be the only lady to have her handicap adjusted. There is no need to return your scores to me.
Good luck to our three ladies on Saturday. I will keep you posted on their progress.

Saturday saw the official opening of Strathmore Golf Club for the 2006 season. 64 members turned out to see out Captains Annette Grewar and Jack Scott hit the first official drives of the season. Under extreme pressure they performed well and both hit drives up the fairway.

Annette and Jack on the Tee!
As always We each bought a flag and placed it where we thought Annette and Jack would land.
Jack tees off
Knocking knees doesn't stop Annette hitting a great shot.A Great Day was had by all and monies were raised for charity. Although the Captains started the day on a good note unfortunately they did not go on to win Pat's Putter. This was won for the first time since 1996 by the Vice Captains Team led by Jane Taylor and Lewis Duncan.
Lewis Duncan (Vice) Jane Taylor (Vice)Annette Grewar and Jack Scott (Captains)
This was a great start to the season albeit we did suffer from heavy rain and hail storms. Everyone enjoyed the day and showed our support to our Captains.
Pete Tinker certainly put the icing on the cake when he aced his shot on the 13th. This was Pete's first ever hole in one. Pete celebrated his achievement by providing all with a welcolme drink. (Expensive day for a hole in one!!) Well done Pete.
We all now look forward to a super season. Well done Annette for a great start.

Huge congratulations go to Strathmore Ladies representatives, Jane Taylor and Rhona McGeoghegan, in The Daily Mail Foursome's national event. Jane and Rhona played against Blairgowrie pair Muriel Rae and Jean Laburn over the Rosemount course. Jane and Rhona received 3 shots and were panicking when they were 2 down after 2 however they kept their nerve and won the match 2 & 1. The end result was definitely worth getting soaked for!!
Well done and look forward to hearing how you both do in the next round.
Saturday saw the final round of our annual Championship on the 9 hole course. The winner of the Handicap section was Gillian Allardice who pipped first round leader Chris Sturgis by one shot. This is the second time Gillian has won this trophy and is a well deserved end to a very successful winter season for her. Winner of the Scratch trophy was Alexandra Bushby. This is also the second time Alexandra has lifted the Scratch section of this event. Alex has also had a very successful season, she also won the singles knockout.
Well done both.

On a lovely spring day we played our first round of the Leiftie Links Championship. Chris Sturgis played an absolute storm and posted a net 52!! A fantastic score but then not far behind her is Gillian Allardice with a net 54. In the scratch section Dawn Butchart scored a 70 with Alexandra Bushby and Sheena Scott on 72. So all to play for this weekend. Here's hoping the weather is as kind!
The draw is the same for this week with the exception of one player Chris Tinker who will tee off at 12.15 this week.
The final of the winter singles took place on Saturday between Alexandra Bushby and Chris Sturgis. Alexandra was on form and won the match at the 15th. This is the first time Alexandra has won the trophy and she certainly deserved the win. This is also the first year for Alexandra as a Perth and Kinross County Squad member and we look forward to more successes in the coming year. Commiserations go to Chris, but it is a great achievement to reach any final so well done to them both.

The final of the winter doubles knockout between Gillian Allardice and Hiroko Graham versus Joan Merry and Sheena Peacock took place on Thursday and our congratulations go to the winners Gillian and Hiroko. Gillian and Hiroko have partnered each other over the last few years and are delighted to have lifted the trophy for the first time. Commiserations go to Sheena and Joan. Sheena and Joan have partnered each other for sometime now and are no strangers to the winter knockout finals. They have won this event on more than one occasion and prove along with Hiroko and Gillian to be among the strongest partnerships of the section.
The final was extremely close with Hiroko and Gillian 2 up at the turn Joan and Sheena fought back to all square by winning the 10th and 11th. But this did not deter Hiroko and Gillian who went on to win the 13th 14th and 16th to clinch the match 3 & 2. Well done to both for what was an excellent match.
Annette Grewar, Dawn Butchart, Sheena Scott, Sandy Bushby and Alexandra Bushby played the 2nd round tie at Craigie Hill in very cold and wet conditions. Sandy and Dawn both won their matches however the strong Craigie Hill team won the other three matches which will take them through to the next stages of the competition.
Although the team was disappointed all members representing Strathmore did us proud and played golf in the true spirit of the game.
For our very first year in this event we have done very well and I would like to thank all who took part and now look forward to our next attempt!

We have been drawn against Craigie Hill and unfortunately do not have home advantage. We are playing the tie at Craigie Hill on Saturday at 1pm.
The team for this round is Alexandra Bushby, Sandy Bushby, Dawn Butchart, Annette Grewar and Sheena Scott.
'GOOD LUCK!!'
I will post the result as soon as possible.

When most of us were wrapped up at home or sitting (like me) in a cosy office, five very brave ladies went for a invigorating game of golf!! Gillian Allardice, Mary McDiarmont, Rhona McGeoghegan, Sheena Peacock and Marion Robertson were the ladies who braved the elements and played their winter league on what was one of the coldest days yet!! I couldn't believe it when Marion phoned with the days results. Hats off to you all!! But special congratulations must go to our player of the moment Gillian Allardice who once again played under handicap with 25 points!! Excellent play Gillian. The runner up was Rhona with a very respectable 23 points.
Well done to all the ladies who played today and I do hope it is better for your next week. Although I don't know what there is that could possibly make you stay at home!

Even after the scissors have been out (more than once) Gillian Allardice continues to post excellent scores. She topped the leader board again yesterday with an excellent 25 stableford points. Well done Gillian. Also posting good scores were Sheena Peackock with 24 points and Chris Tinker with 21. It is certainly getting close at the top now and all to play for. The full results up to todays date are as follows:
Gillian Alladice and Marion Robertson share the top postition with 241 points, Birtie Buckette is next in line with 236 points then Sheena Peacock with 233 points.
The next few weeks should be very interesting!

Congratulations go to the all the Team Members who represented Strathmore in the Mail on Sunday Team event. Our team won our first round match on Saturday morning against Kirriemuir and now progress to the next stages of this National Team Event.
The Team members were Chris Tinker, Birtie Buckett, Gillian Allardice, Rhona McGeoghegan and Team Captain for the day Marion Robertson. Both Gillian and Birtie won their matches and Marion halved hers. This made the team scores 2 1/2 and 2 1/2. As Marion was player number 5 she then had to make a nail biting trip up the 19th to decide the overall result. Marion kept her cool however and won the match on the first extra hole.
Well done to all the Ladies who played, this is a great result for Strathmore in our first ever appearance in the event.
I did text the result to Annette whilst on her holiday in Australia, she was delighted and asked me to pass on her congratulations to the team.
I will keep you posted as to our next opponents and when this will take place.

This morning 14 Ladies walked off the excesses caused by all the chocolates received on Valentines Day yesterday. Although the sun was shining it was rather cold but the scoring was, as ever, very impressive. Both Sheena Peacock and Gillian Allardice scored 23 points, Sheena pipping Gillian on the better last 3. Eleanor Fenwick also scored well with 22 points.
Well done all.

For the very first time, Strathmore are taking part in the national team competition 'Mail on Sunday'. The first round is being played on Saturday 18th February. The format is a team of 5 players playing singles matchplay over 18 holes. We have been drawn against Kirriemuir in the first round and have been drawn at home. The tee times commence at 09.45. The committee decided to pick the team on the results so far on the Winter League. The team consists of the 5 of the top 7 scorers. Unfortunately two players are unavailable to take part.
The team members are as follows:
Marion Robertson, Birtie Buckett, Chris Tinker, Gillian Allardice and Rhona McGeoghegan.
On behalf of all the ladies section I would like to pass on my very best wishes to the team and hope they enjoy the match.
Although the sun was shining it was a very cold morning. 15 ladies braved the cold and one in particular played outstanding golf, Chris Sturgis scored an impressive 30 points over the 12 winter league holes. Well done Chris, a fantastic score! In second place was Joan Merry with a very steady 23 points, well Joan.
Wednesday, February 01, 2006
It may be the first of February but that doesn't make it any warmer!! However that didn't deter our ladies this morning! The ground was frozen solid making it almost impossible to stop the ball! The results of the day were as follows:
Gillian Allardice 20 points
Rhona Mcgeoghegan 19 points
Eleanor Fenwick 18 points
Well done to all who braved the weather.

You will see that I have entered a new 'link' on our website. It is for a website called 'Golf Central'. Annette showed gave me this website and I think it is great. It is almost the same as the 'Wee Yellow Book' but is free and on line. There are also entry forms to download with the addresses already on them. It is a super site and a great way to enter opens.
Not only can you enter opens but you can find out about green fees and facilities available on courses in any area in Scotland, along with contact telephone numbers and Email addresses. You can also register as a member and this entitles you to special green fee offers on certain courses.
Have a look and let me know what you think.

The good news is that the back 9 are open....Hurray.....The bad news is that the front nine is still closed...Ahhhh. The problem seems to be the 4th and 5th holes where the sun doesn't reach and therefore they have iced over. However with the forecast sounding promising with temperatures reaching 9 degrees today and over night, fingers are well and truly crossed for the weekend.
I am going away for the weekend so will be unable to post any changes just give the office a ring for updates. But at least we can get out and play now!!! Leitfie Links is also open.
Wednesday, January 11, 2006
I don't know about you but I am beginning to get severe withdrawal symptoms! But unfortunately as most of you will be aware the course is STILL CLOSED! Although most of the snow has disappeared there is now flooding on the course but hopefully it will re-open tomorrow.
I will phone first thing and let you know by posting the decision on this site.
Fingers crossed then!!!

Some 20 members took the opportunity to walk off all that Christmas food by taking part in our annual Boxing Day Texas Scramble. For once the weather was actually very nice! We split up into five groups, each group consisted of four players one being a lady who was elected team captain. It was a great day with lots of fun. These 'links' are to the P&K Ladies County Golf Web site which is a very useful for P&K members to see draws, results and news relating to P&K players. Also is a 'Link' to the SLGA website which provides information relating to Scottish Ladies Events and competitions and the last is to the Gillian Kirkwood website which is a very informative website geared for lady golfers. In the summer this is a great site which is updated daily.
To use the links simply click on the one you want to view and that will take you directly there.
