FIREWORK EXTRAVAGANZA

(Click on the arrows to watch the clips)

At the AGM David informed us that the Firework Dinner Dance which was to be held on Saturday was cancelled due to lack of support. However he did say that if 20 or more of us turned up he would set off some of the fireworks. Never one to turn down a challenge and after very little encouragement more than 40 members and their children turned up at the club house where a host of games and fun were organised. Firstly we had REAL judges for 'Strictly Come Dancing' which was on the 'big screen' while we all enjoyed a wonderful meal. Frankie Moran did us proud and brought along his 'Wii'. Following 'Strictly' we had 4 teams of 4 players take on the 'Strathmore Bowling Challenge' it was brilliant fun but some of our lady members got somewhat excited by it all as you can see from the video and photos.

David then treated us to a fantastic Firework display. What a brilliant event! Really breath taking. Well done David they were truly amazing as you can see from the very short clip above! Sorry didnt manage to get a longer one!

When we all came back from the display we held a matchplay 'Tiger Woods Challenge Golf Championship' on Frankie's Wii, as you can see from the photos below it was such good fun. The eventual winners were Julieann and her son Robbie. However we now know how the Gents past Captain will fill his time over the winter months! The whole night was a huge success and our sincere thanks go to David for a fantastic evening enjoyed by all age groups, also to Frankie Moran for bringing along his game for us all to play! Looking forward to the next one already!

I do hope you enjoy the slide show and the new video clips! I just hope you all don't run away now when I appear with my camera in hand!

    HALLOWEEN STRATHMORE STYLE!

Centre manager David Norman and his wife Lorraine hosted what was a fantastic evening of fun for both adults and children alike. The Club House was completely transformed, the work involved was huge. The decorations and music were more than we could ever imagine, just brilliant! David and Lorraine really threw themselves into a wonderful party night. With games and fun for all of us. Firstly the children had to search for hidden spoons in the car park, then we had eating sticky buns and burying our heads in rice krispies to rescue hidden marshmallows! We had to lift Maltesers with straws and place in bowls! Wrapping unsuspecting adults with toilet roll 'mummy style', musical statues and much more! There were prizes for all the games and also best dressed boy and girl and gent and lady.

As you can see some of the costumes were brilliant! Fabulous fun was had by everyone if you didn't go you missed a tremendous evening so settle down and watch some of the fun in the photos below. Thanks go to Marion who supplied some of the photos! and many many thanks Lorraine and David for a wonderful evening!

Phenomenal scoring yesterday for our Norse Cup. The winning couple with a massive 47 points (yes 47) was Sandy Bushby and Graham Haynes. In second place was Gillian Allardice and Stephen Schofield on 43 (bih) and in Third Rhoda Fraser and Jack Scott 43. Well done all!

Many thanks once again go to Marion Robertson and Iain Butchart for another well organised event. With 56 people taking part the mixed events are an extremely popular part of our club. Also thanks to the Centre Catering Staff for another excellent meal.

NEW WILDLIFE ON THE 5th POND

    RED CROSS DAY

Strathmore hosted the Red Cross Tournament yesterday and a team of juniors jointly sponsored by the Club and the Centre took part. They were Allan Easton. Matthew Bell, Grant Martin and Megan Aird. They all played beautifully and did us all proud by finishing in third place over all.

Many other Strathmore members took part indeed the winning team consisted of lady members Sandy and Alex Bushby along with Sandy's brother Ian and Jane Douglas's team was in second place so very well done to all the Stathmore participants.

    Well done all.

    SCRATCH LEAGUE RESULTS

The Scratch League Team who represented Strathmore Golf Club were Team Captain Alexandra Bushby, Dawn Butchart, Sandy Bushby, Sheena Scott, Jane Taylor and Judy Goodfellow.

They all certainly did us proud in our maiden year of scratch league competition, they were among the three top teams of the leader board who had a final tally of 10 match points.

Unfortunately when it comes to teams having the same points it then goes back to games for and finally how many holes won by, where we were pipped by the eventual winners Craigie Hill and second place team Alyth who had more individual games won than us. However to have been to close to winning and being third out of the rest of the County Clubs is a fantastic result.

Congratulation to the all team and lets look forward to next year.
    MERRY TROPHY RESULTS

Next to Gillian was Dawn Butchart returning a score of 34 which also matched the best alternative day score of 34 by Mary West.

    PAST CAPTAINS DAY

The past Captains of Strathmore were all invited to Strathmore to play in the Annual Past Captains Day on Friday. Unfortunately two past captains were unable to attend, Jenny French and Anke. Anke was unable to attend as she has had a fall and hurt her shoulder, we all wish her a speedy recovery.

Past Captains Margaret Young, Dawn Butchart, Sandy Bushby, Wilma Nicoll, Joan Merry and Annette Grewar along with their guest present Captain Jane Taylor got together and had a lovely game followed by a suberb meal. Annette Grewar won the trophy with 37 stableford points. Well done Annette. It was especially nice to see Margaret play her very first full 18 holes.

TWO STRATHMORE MEMBERS RECOGNISED AT NATIONAL LEVEL

Strathmore club Champion Alexandra Bushby has been invited by the SLGA to take part in National B Squad coaching for 2007-2008. This is a fantastic achievement for Alex who has worked extremely hard on her golf over the last two years reducing her handicap from 4 to 1 this year alone. Alex has also represented Perth and Kinross at County level for the last two years and is the current County Champion. She also won the Perth and Kinross Champion of Champions last year.

Junior member Megan Aird has also been invited by the SLGA to take part in the Girls Development squad for 2007-2008. Again this is a fantastic opportunity for Megan who has also worked very hard over the last year. Megan this year was the first girl to reach the Strathmore Junior Championship final, she also represented Perth and Kinross at the inter county championship at Balumbie and was selected by P&K for a scholarship at Gleneagles. Megan certainly took advantage of the scholarship and used the facility as often as possible.

I am delighted for Strathmore but also P&K County who work tirelessly to promote our girls. It is very gratifying to see the efforts rewarded.

Well done girls and take full advantage of all the opportunities that are available.

    LADIES VERSUS SENIOR GENTS

Congratulations go to Peter Tinker and his Senior Gents for a very close win on Wednesday! Perhaps if I had got a trophy with a lady on it instead of a man we would have had more luck!

Joking aside, this event really has gone from strength to strenght with more and more members taking part every year which is really what the day is about.....its the taking part that really counts!

Well done Gents and look forward to next years event!

    LGU MEDAL AND THISTLE BROOCH

It is always a sign that we are nearing the end of the season when you play in the last evening draw of the season. Hard to believe we have reached this time of the year already! However two ladies are playing extremely well. They are Alexandra Bushby and Rhona McIntosh. Alex returned a scratch score of 2 under par 70 making her nett score 68. This score will bring Alex down to her lowest ever handicap or 1.2. Rhona kept her spell of form going too with yet another nett score below par. Rhona has played extremely well over the last month and even with her drastically reduced handicap still manages to maintain a very consistent level of play. Well done both!

    Full results are as follows:
    Scratch:
    Alexandra Bushby 70
    Dawn Butchart 78

    Silver
    Alexandra Bushby (2) 68
    Dawn Butchart (6) 72
    Sheena Scott (11) 73 bih
    Marion Robertson (20) 73

    Bronze
    Rhona McIntosh (26) 70
    Mary Menzies (23) 74
    Sheena Peacock (21) 75

Three ladies had their handicap reduced. They were as follows:
Alexandra Bushby was 2 now 1.2 new playing 1
Rhona McInstosh was 26 now 25.4 new playing 25
Dawn Butchart was 6 now 5.4 new playing 5. I was cut due to a Stableford Adjustment (Clause 19.8) My ball decided to visit the horses at the 4th!

    WELL DONE JOAN

Well done to Joan Merry for once again giving her time and energy to organise another successful Cancer Fundraising Golf Day at Strathmore yesterday. Over 230 ladies took part which must be the largest entry to date. Over £20,000 has been raised with these events which is indeed something to be very proud of Joan. Well done

Congratulations also go to mother and daughter team Sandy and Alexandra Bushby who were the winners of the event with a fantastic scratch score of 67!! Well done both.

    JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL

The Strathmore Junior Championship took place on Sunday afternoon and I was very pleased to referee what was an excellent match played by two very talented, polite and courteous young people. The finalist were defending champion Allan Easton and for the very first time a junior girl, Megan Aird.

The winner on the day was Allan who played some tremendous golf and finished in style with a 3 on the 14th. Allan was only 1 over par. Megan also played beautifully with 2 excellent birdies on 3 and 10 and her play off the tee was superb.

Both players conducted themselves in manner they should both be very proud of. There was no displays of bad temper or sulks! and even after losing a ball Megan walked back to the tee quite happily. It was a pleasure to spend the afternoon in their company.

Our congratulations go to the winner Allan Easton but Strathmore Golf Club should be very proud of our two finalist and also a special mention should go to their fellow junior members Matthew Bell, Alistair Gilmour and Grant Martin who took time out to walk round and support the finalists not only yesterday but last Sunday for the Gents Tankard final. We really have a great bunch of juniors who really deserve all our support. Well done to them all.

Also thanks go to Lady Captain Jane Taylor who came along to support the finalist and for making a very encouraging speech to the finalists. Unfortunatley due to bad weather the change of dates meant Gents Captain Jack Scott and President Peter Tinker were unable to attend as they are both away on holiday. Thanks also go the the caddies.

I have some photographs of the day most were taken by David (Bailey) Douglas so special thanks go to him. To see them just click on the link below.
