The Strathmore Ladies Team of Dawn Butchart, Charlotte Bushby, Alex Bushby, Lesley Haynes, Fanny Christie, Birtie Buckett, Sandy Bushby and Chris Sturgis played our first ever match against the gentlemen of Royal Perth and won 3.5 to 0.5. A fantastic result for the ladies section.

This was the first time in the 250 year history that Royal Perth has played a match against the 'fairer sex' and all the games were extremely close with 2 of the 3 wins ending on the 18th green.

SCRATCH LEAGUE SUCCESS

Strathmore Ladies Scratch League Team of Alex Bushby, Dawn Butchart, Sandy Bushby, Sheena Scott and Judy Goodfellow played in the 6th match of the Scratch League last night against Alyth and won 3.5 to 1.5. Alex Dawn and Judy won their matches and Sandy halved hers. Special mention for Judy who postponed her holiday to take part!

This is a fantastic result against Alyth who have an all single figure handicap team. Strathmore have now completed 6 matches, we have won 5 and lost 1 and with only 1 more match remaining Strathmore are once again at the top of the league.

Our last match is against Blairgowrie away on August 6th.

PRESIDENTS DAY

What a super day we all had on Saturday when President Peter Tinker hosted his first Presidents Day. Almost 90 members took part on a glorious summers day. Iain and Marion, our mixed conveners, organised a 'shot gun' start which made it all the more enjoyable as we all finished around the same time which meant no waiting by anyone.

Peter, as ever, was a fantastic host making us all feel most welcome and assuring we fed superbly.

The scoring was very good, but one lady who is very much on her game is Alexandra Bushby who won the 'Presidents Cup' for the first time with a fantastic nett 68. Her scratch score of 71 was very impressive. Second place went to junior member Charlotte Bushby with nett 69. Well done.

The full results were as follows:

Ladies Nearest the Pin in two - Chris Tinker
Ladies Nearest the Pin - Sandy Bushby
Ladies Longest Drive - Alex Bushby
Ladies Longest Drive of a certain age - Chris Tinker
Gents Nearest the Pin in Two - John Menzies
Gents Nearest the Pin - Russell Peacock
Gents Longest Drive- Rory Hudson
Gents Longest Drive of a certain age - George Dolby

Peter also presented mixed conveners Marion and Iain with a bottle of wine in appreciation of their help in the organisation of the day.

Everyone present enjoyed the day and many thanks go to Peter for his hard work and generosity.

More photos of the day are below.

    WEATHER LINK

As we seem to be going through a 'will i wear shorts or a polo neck' spell I thought we could maybe do with a 'link' to a weather forecast website!!

I have therefore placed a new link on the right of the page, which will take you straight to a weather forecast website for Alyth. Just click on the sign and hopefully this might help us decide how many layers of clothing we may or may not need!

    Hope you like it.

    PRESIDENTS DAY

Saturday will see Peter Tinker host his very first Presidents Day. The entry is one of the largest we have seen for a mixed event therefore a shotgun start has been arranged for the day. The Tee off time for us all is 9.30am. Marion and Iain will do a draw to see who starts where! I will try to post that as soon as it is done.
Make sure you give yourself plenty of time just in case you are on one of the farthest away starts!!
    TROLLEY DOLLIES DO GOOD!!

Great news!! Just had a letter from Aberdour Golf Club giving me all the scores from the open (which you had already given me) but the most exciting thing was that there was three envelopes enclosed. We have three prize winning ladies!! They are as follows:

Sally Fenner - 2nd Scratch Bronze
Mary Menzies - 3rd Scratch Bronze
    Joan Merry - 4th H/Cap Silver

I have the prize vouchers and hope to see all the clever ladies at the weekend.

    Well done!

    FINALS DAY AT STRATHMORE

A fantastic turn out for Saturday's finals day. With more than 50 people attending and enjoying a fantastic display of golf and an excellent buffet.

Alexandra Bushby was the winner of the Ladies Club Championship. Alexandra met Dawn Butchart in the final for the 7th consecutive year. The golf was of a high standard played in a manner in which they should both be proud. Alexandra has reached a very high standard of golf and has had a fantastic season to date, she has not only won this championship but also Blairgowrie and P&K County Championships. Thanks also go to caddies Sandy Bushby and Annette Grewar.

Chris Sturgis was the winner of the Handicap Rosebowl championship. Chris played Sally Fenner in the final and it was a very close match. The ladies were caddied enthusiatically by Rhona McGeoghegan and Jenny Groom. (see photos!!)

The Gents Club Championship was won by Iain Butchart. Iain played junior member Alan Easton, both players making their debut in the championship final. The standard of golf again was very high and was enjoyed by al who watched. The caddies were Alana Butchart and Stuart Ferguson.

During the first round of the championships, 35 members took part in a Texas Scramble over 12 holes which was organised by Marion Robertson. This was great fun and a super way for members to get together before supporting the finalists in their 2nd round of the day. The Texas scramble was won by Brian McGowan, Morag Woodcraft, Heather Dawson and Russell Peacock.

Following prizegiving, our chef Lindsay produced the most wonderful buffet which was enjoyed by over 40 members.

On behalf of all the finalists a huge thank you to all the members who took the time to come along and support us and also the Ladies and Gents Committee for organising the day so beautifully. Also thanks to the green keepers who manged to keep the course open for us and ofcourse centre manager David Norman, chef Lindsay and all the centre staff for looking after all so well.

Below is a link for some more photos of the day. If you have any photographs which you have taken please EMail them to me and I will add them to the slide show.

SCRATCH LEAGUE TEAM FACE FIRST DEFEAT

Our Scratch League team of Dawn Butchart, Sandy Bushby, Sheena Scott, Jane Taylor and Judy Goodfellow encountered their first defeat against Auchterarder away. Jane Taylor was the only member of the team to win her match, Sandy halved her match and the others although very close, were all lost. However to date Strathmore Team are leading the Scratch League which is no mean feat for our first season and with only 2 matches left we have certainly done Strathmore Ladies proud.

With Alexandra playing in the North of Scotland, Judy Goodfellow was a very welcomed new addition to the team and hopefully she enjoyed her debut.

Congratulations go to Alexandra for qualifying into the Matchplay stages of the North of Scotland which is being held in Lossiemouth over the 'Old Moray' Course. Alex qualified in 10th position with a 81 (par 76). She plays this morning against Downfield and Alyth member Heather Anderson who qualified in 7th position. Good Luck Alex!!

IT COULD ONLY HAPPEN TO ERIC!

I know that David was trying to introduce new forms of wild life to the pond at the 5th however I don't think that Eric's golf bag was quite what he had in mind!

Eric Gray and his playing partners Frank Moran, David Robinson and Graham Haynes were on the white tee at the 5th when Eric's bag suddenly took off, it did stop for a moment (bit of a tease) then took off again and even with cries of stop - or words like that- from Eric, it continued on its merry way straight into the new part of the pond. It took a driver to pull it close enough to edge to enable Eric to pull it from its watery grave. Once the bag and trolley were out all that was left in the water was the battery. It took a 3 iron and Graham Haynes fishing prowess to hook that. (No pun intended). However the ball that Eric played from the Tee after the incident is still in the pond!! Even Graham couldn't save that one! Surprisingly after a bit of a cough and a splutter the trolley was in perfect working order.

Alex, Rhoda and myself were playing behind and with the help of Alex and Frank's phone cameras we were able to capture the moment!! Talk about being in the right place at the right time!!

    ASHFORD TROPHY

Sorry the results were not in the papers today but I forgot to take them home last night and as I didn't get home until after 10pm I couldn't go back. I can only tell you that the winner was Alexandra Bushby with a tremendous score of 71 scratch 68 nett. Fantastic scoring. This score brings Alex down to 2.4, well done! The CSS was 72.

I will do a full report when I get the result sheet.

SCRATCH LEAGUE TEAM RETAIN 100% RECORD

Strathmore Scratch League Team of Alexandra Bushby, Dawn Butchart, Sandy Bushby, Sheena Scott and Jane Taylor held on their 100% record with a win against Pitlochry at home. Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances, Pitlochry were one member down which meant Jane did not have to play and was automatically awarded a win and along with 3 further wins from Dawn, Sandy and Sheena, Strathmore won the match 4 - 1. Well done all.

    Well done all.

Strathmore have already played 4 of our 7 matches. Our next match is away to Auchterarder on July 2nd.

    Best of luck!!

Our Daily Mail Foursomes representatives Birte Buckett and Fanny Christie failed to make it to the next stages of the national competition when they lost, away, to Panmure Barry yesterday.

Birte and Fanny have done extremely well to reach the 4th round of the competition which is the furthest Strathmore have achieved to date. Although both are disappointed they should also be very proud of themselves - we are!!

    Well done to you both.

    LADIES OPEN

What a glorious day we had for our ladies open yesterday. The weather was fantastic, one of the best days of the year so far. There certainly was no excuse at all as was proved by some very low scores.

Many thanks also go to the Centre Staff who coped extremely well with a very unexpected power cut. Which lasted from 1pm until 6.30pm. Such a pity for the kitchen staff who were then limited to the food they could prepare. Thanks also to the Green Keeping Staff who had the course in beautiful condition for our day.
Our Captain, Jane, put a lot of work and effort into the day and our thanks also go to her for arranging such a sucessful day. (You can now relax for a week or two Jane!)

    KINPURNIE CUP

The Mixed Kinpurnie Cup took place this Sunday and with another large turnout it was a super day. The winners of the trophy by virtue of a better inward half was Sandy Busbhy and her brother Ian Elvers with 39 points. Well done both. In second place was Iain and Dawn Butchart also 39.

Many thanks once again to Marion and Iain for organising the day and also the centre for a lovely menu.

    ALEX EQUALS COURSE RECORD

After a day of torrential rain the course in the evening, although playable, was very wet under foot. But at least it was dry over head. Alexandra was certainly the star of the day with a gross 69 she equaled the course record. Alex birdied holes 3, 4, 11, 12, 15 and 18. She had one bogey at the 7th and a very unfortunate double bogey on 16.
Playing along side Alex was a joy, her golf was superb to watch, her wedge play into greens was exceptional. Alex has practised hard all winter and this is now very evident in her play. Alex has already reduced her handicap from 4 to 2.6.
    Well done Alex.

    Full results were as follows:

    CSS 72

    Scratch
    Alexandra Busbhy 69
    Dawn Butchart 79

    Silver
    Alexandra Bushby (3) 66
    Dawn Butchart (6) 73

    Bronze
    Lesley Haynes (25) 81
    Linda Ross (36) 83 bih
    Mary McDiarmid (29) 83

The above players were the only ladies to return scores. Lets hope that the weather will improve for our Open next week.

    CHARITY STABLEFORD (3)

Did we have our summer in April?? Going by the wind yesterday and the day before it would appear to be the case. However the wind did not deter Rhona McIntosh who returned a magnificent score of 40 stableford points. Closely followed by Annette Grewar with 39 points. Well done both. The full result is as follows:

    CSS 72

    Rhona McIntosh (31) 40
    Annette Grewar (15) 39
    Lesley Haynes (25) 37
    Sheena Scott (11) 34

With such great scores in the conditions both Rhona and Annette received a well deserved cut to their handicap:
    Rhona was 31 now 29.0 playing 29
    Annette was 15 now 13.8 playing 14

Well done and lets hope the wind will completely blow itself out by next week!

PS very sorry that the result was not in the papers this morning but I didnt get home till 9pm and just had to watch The Apprentice and when I called at 10pm copy desk was closed early!!

  • STRATHMORE SCRATCH LEAGUE TEAM

Stathmore Ladies Section have entered a team for the Scratch League for the very first time this year. All matches are played 'scratch' therefore no strokes are provided for wither player and the team is played in strict handicap order in single matches.

We were to play our very first match last Monday against Crieff however Crieff gave us a walk over ( 5-0) as they could not get together a team to play.

This Monday however we did play our very first match against Dunkeld and Birnam at Dunkeld. The Team consisted of our Scratch Team Captain Alexandra Bushby, Dawn Butchart, Sandy Bushby, Sheena Scott and Jane Taylor. Alex, Dawn and Sandy all won their individual matches and Sheena and Jane were narrowly beaten however this provided us with a win of 3 & 2.

Well done everyone. A great start to our year! I will keep you posted of the results.

As you can see from the photo we even have matching team sweaters!!

    CONGRATULATIONS BIRTIE AND FANNY

Birtie Buckett and Fanny Christie played in the third round of the Daily Mail Foursomes against Drumoig at home on Monday and I am delighted to announce that Birite and Fanny won the match 7 & 6.

Birtie and Fanny played some wonderful golf and very modestly said that they had the advantage of knowing the greens!

Congratulations to you both and all our best wishes in the next stage of the competition.

Unfortunately Alex lost by one hole in the first round at Kilmarnock this morning. After a week of competitive golf, tiredness took its toll on Alexandra who has played some magnificent golf this week and last week during the County Championships when she was crowned County Champion 2007.

    CONGRATULATIONS ALEXANDRA

Huge congratulation go to Alexandra Bushby who yesterday took the title of 'Perth and Kinross County Champion 2007'. Alex played absolutely beautiful golf, a real joy to watch. As P&K Vice Captain and also her club mate I was extremely proud of her through-out the weekend.

Alex played myself in the first round and although I played well she was three under par over 13 holes and she won 6&5 then she played young Annabel Niven (Crieff) again winning 6&5. On Sunday she played Gwen Lambie (Dunkeld and Birnam) and again won 3&2. The afternoon's final was against Emily Ogivly (Auchterarder) who is a scratch golfer just home from 5 years in America. Emily has been a great team member for P&K over the years, Alex and Emily had a great game which was nip and tuck throughout. Alex won the game at the 18th after a level par match.

Full details will be posted on the P&K website with pictures of the weekend, I will post a link ASAP.
Alexandra is away this week at Kilmarnock Barassie as she is taking part in the Scottish Ladies (Close) Amateur Championship. Well done Alex and all the very best from us all for the week ahead.

    CONGRATUALTIONS ALEXANDRA AND DAWN

On what can only be described as the most horrendous conditions Alexandra Bushby and Dawn Butchart both qualified for the Scratch Section of the Perth and Kinross County Championship. I played in the morning and came back with what I thought to be the most horrendous score of 91 but was unaware the scoring was so poor. The rain just did not stop to the extent that the greens required to be cleared of water continuously. Alex also came back with a score of 84 unsure if that was enough which is certainly was! Alex qualified in 4th position and I was in 13th.

The only downside is that as the draw is automatic, this means Alex and I will face each other in the first round which is a little unfortunate. However it is great to have 2 players in the top 16 of the county! I am also very pleased to have qualified for the last 6 years in a row!!

Here's hoping the weather is a little kinder.

    2000 TROPHY (1) RESULTS

Some excellent scoring once again with 10 ladies scoring 36 points or more. The best lady of the day was Lesley Haynes with an impressive 40 points, well done Lesley. Sheean Peacock was not far behind with 39 points. Great score! The full results are as follows:

    CSS 71

    Lesley Haynes (26) 40
    Sheean Peacock (20) 39
    Alexandra Bushby (4) 38 bih
    Edith Ralston (35) 38
    Mary Menzies (24) 38
    Rhoda Fraser (27) 37
    Dawn Butchart (6) 37

    Well done all.

The following players received a reduction to their handicap they were:

Lesley Haynes was 26 now 25.1 playing 25
Sheena Peacock was 20 now 19.4 playing 19
Mary Menzies was 24 now 23.1 playing 23.
