HAPPY BIRTHDAY ERIC

Eric Gray celebrated his birthday yesterday and along with Anne, had an open ended invitation for all members to join him. It was a super day and Eric proudly held his spot on his 'high chair'!!

We even supplied him with a tray from the kiddies high chairs!!

Anne provided him with a beautiful cake. He made a wish and blew the candles. We all guessed he wished for no more trips to the 5th pond (either by the golf ball or trolley!)

Jackie and Eric then took to the floor to show what they had both learned by watching Strictly Come Dancing !!

However judging by the scoring at the end of the performance they really should just stick to golf!
A big thank you from all of us who attended and a Very Happy Birthday Eric!

WINTER WONDERLAND
After a very hard frost over night on Friday Strathmore Golf Course looked absolutely beautiful!! Here are some photos taken on Saturday. Not very artistic I know but the best I could get!!

This is the 12th

The sun came out for a short time just before it set.

And yes, you can always guarantee some of us 'dafties' will golf!!

    TURKEY TROT

Yesterday was our annual Turkey Trot and after what looked like a wash out, most of us managed to get round 12 holes without getting drenched!! We even had glimpse's of sunshine!

Following the golf we all got our Christmas Hats on for the judge, David Norman, to make ad very difficult decision in choosing the 'best hat'! We had turkey hats, flashing and waggling hats, snow man hats and halo's in fact every kind of hat you could possibly imagine. The eventual winner, picked by David, was Marilyn Galbally with a wonderful creation of Baby Jesus in a crib. Well done to all of you who wore your hat! Following the announcement of the best hat we had the lucky seat draw. Each seat was given a number and as your number was called by Vice Captain and Christmas Fairy, Rhona McGeoghegan you had to take your seat and the last standing won the lucky seat prize. The winner was past Captain Annette Grewar.

Then the meal arrived and it was the most wonderful Christmas Lunch!!! We had so many choices of starter, mains and pudding and all were fantastic. We even had tablet that was kindly made by Captain Jane's mum and date and marzipan sweets made by the Fairy plus coffee and mince pies. It was a wonder we could move afterward!!

The winners of the golf were then presented with their prizes and the scoring was exceptionally good once again. In third place with 25 points Gillian Allardice, in 2nd place Sandy Bushby 27 points and the winner with a magnificent score of 28 points Birtie Buckett. Well done all.

We were then all treated to a magical visit by Santa Claus himself, and because we had all been very good, we were all given a present. It was just great!

Then Eleanor Fenwick read a poem dedicated to the Fairy whilst she did a little dance for us. It really was fun. Well done to Eleanor and Rhona for a wonderful finish to a fabulous day.

Captain Jane Taylor was thanked for providing us with a wonderful day and she in turn thanked the centre and catering staff for the wonder hospitality and food and also her committee, especially Jenny for all her hard work organising the golf, Marion for her help with the cards and scoring and Secretary Chris for her help in the organising the meal and monies.

A great day was had by all. More photos of the day are below. Just click and you will be directed to the slide show!

    IS YOUR CLUB LEGAL???

From 1 January 2008, a Rule of Golf will be introduced which will limit the 'spring-like' effect of all drivers for every golfers of every ability. This rule was announced in August 2002 and it has already been in place for all elite level competition staged by SLGA, SGU, PGA etc via a Condition of Competition, since 1 January 2003.

This 'new' Rule will affect the conformance status of some drivers currently in the marketplace and in players' bags. Golfers are, therefore, encouraged to check their own driver before January 1 2008 and replace any driver which no longer conforms. The R&A have provided two Lists one which provides a list of all conforming Drivers and one for all non-conforming clubs.

To view a list of drivers which will become non-conforming on 1 January 2008 and which are contrary to the Driving Club Condition of Competition, please click on the link below and remember that if your driver is non conforming you must NOT use it in competition, THE PENALTY IN DOING SO IS DISQUALIFICATION :

  • Jane has also placed the full list in the club house for your information. If you have any queries please contact any committee member.

    ST. ANDREWS SKITTLES NIGHT

Once again David organised a great fun night for us. Around forty members and family enjoyed a fantastic night of fun and games!! Mark and Dawn Tinker donated use of their pool table for the evening plus we had every board game imaginable. But the centre of every ones attention was, of course, the skittles!

David placed all of us in on of 4 teams and when it was your turn you got three balls to try and knock down as many skittles as possible. The best of score after 4 rounds determined the winning team. Which was Team D. Prizes were also presented for the best individual Lady (Dawn Butchart), best Gent (Pete Barnett), best Boy and girl over 11 (Rory and Jordan Tinker), best boy and girl under 11 (Joe Howell and Kirsty Haynes) and best individual score with three balls (Peter Tinker). Lyndsay once again provided a great supper which was served during the 'interval'!

We all had a excellent time, it is really great to have these social nights when we can all get together and have some family fun.

Next Event is of course the Dinner Dance which will be held on Saturday 15th December. Try and sign up as soon as possible for what I am sure will be another fabulous evening.
