With no change in the weather and the course looking like a Christmas card, it seems unlikely that there will be any golf for some time. The Sair Heid Bash will, therefore, be abandoned but the mixed convenors hope to arrange another Texas Scramble at a later date.
Ladies, should the course be opened by Wednesday, please just turn up and a draw will be done on the day.
A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL

WHO REMEMBERS THIS????

Early members of Strathmore will recognise the Clubhouse in its early days - this picture was taken by Graeme Hunter in 1995 just after the framework had been erected and wow, we were all so excited to see the Centre starting to take shape after using a Portcabin for several months. Those members not around at that time might like to know the Countess of Strathmore was invited to dig out the first spade of soil in front of the members. A certain Japanese member, on hearing that Royalty had been invited to perform this ceremonial act, appeared in a fantastic, black silk outfit, matching black ostrich feather hat, fantastic stiletto shoes, beautiful black gloves and an exquisite silk, embroidered bag. The Countess drove up in a a Landrover which had obviously been through some muddy, country lanes. She was dressed as a countrywoman should be -- in sensible shoes, sensible jacket, sensible cords, no hat. As she got stuck in with the spade, the Japanese member looked quizzical. "Where is the Countess?" she asked. On being told that this was, in fact, the Countess, she said something in Japanese.
Nobody had the nerve to ask her for a translation!

IT'S A DOUBLE ROLL-OVER!!

After last week's winning scores which resembled temperatures in a heatwave it was back to earth this week with a meagre 20 points leading the way. Alas, there were 2 winning scores, so the Lady Captain kept careful watch as the scores were entered into the computer. The suspense was electric -- who would win on the Countback ? After a bit of dithering caused by one potential winner claiming her score was in the computer when it was, in fact, lying on the cloakroom bench, the computer announced it was a
Dead Heat! Dreams of winning the Sweep turned to dust, the lolly had to be shared. Well done to Heather Dawson and Sally Fenner - and a word for the shady lady who appeared in a black Zorro-style bandit mask this morning - we know who you are, we are watching you... you are a Marked Woman.

CAUGHT IN THE CLOAKROOM!

The Winter League on Wednesday December 9th was played in wonderful, balmy weather - ladies were stripping off all round the course as the temperature rose. Golf scores were also rising, and you might have thought coming into the Clubhouse with 26 and even 28 points would give you a chance of being The Winner, but...... it was not to be.
Rumours spread of 31 points, who was it? A quick visit to the cloakroom found a certain, delighted lady with a grin as big as a bucket! Well done that woman!

S Peacock - 26pts

FESTIVE FROLICS AT THE TURKEY TROT

The weather forecast for the Turkey Trot on 2nd December promised snow and sleet, but the Lady Captain worked her usual charms to ensure a cracking day. The Christmas hats were hilarious, the golf was a challenge, and the lovely lunch - well, we know what happens to turkeys over the festive season and that's how we all felt when we rose from the table! It was a fantastic day with lots of laughter, a visit from Santa accompanied by a saucy green and red elf (who looked oddly familiar) and the fun of opening those mystery parcels. The pictures of the day tell their own story, more will be on display in the Locker Room asap.
