CAPTAINS DRIVE IN A HUGE SUCCESS
Saturday was our 'Captain's Drive In' which is the official opening of the course for the season. 96 members took part on what was a very enjoyable day.

Our Captain Jane Taylor was more than a little nervous but stepped up to the challenge of teeing off in front of a band of spectators and hit her shot straight up the fairway. Well done Jane!!

Gent's Captain Lewis Duncan also managed to hide his nerves and hit his drive beautifully up the fairway.

After all the 'flags' were placed a total of £151.00 was raised for Captains Charity. The charity's are for Jane, Caring for Kids and Lewis, C.H.A.S. The winners of the Flags were for the Gents Drive, Lady Captain Jane's son Ryan and the winner of the Lady's Flag was Lee Bushby who kindly re donated his prize to the Captain's Charity.

After the Captains Drives, we made our way to our relevant Tee then Bernie blasted the Air Horn for our Shotgun start. Then the accumulative stableford points for the Captains Team and the Vice Captains Team were checked then placed on the board. It was an extremely close call right up to the last card the Vice Captains were winning by only 2 points. But when the last card came in the gap was widened by 6 points and the Vice Captains team were the winners of Pat's Putter.

Vice Captain Rhona McGeoghegan and Alan Christie very happy to be the owners of the Putter however although Rhona thanked her 'Team' she did suggest they all play for the Captains Team next year!!

A huge thank you go to Marion and Iain for once again organising a wonderful day. Thanks also to the centre for the food and hospitality and also for closing the course which enabled a Shotgun Start.

    MIXED COMPETITIONS

The Congu rules and recommendations regarding Mixed Competitions seems to have caused quite a lot of discussions of late! It is a mine field I know but if you read the Congu reasoning it does, infact, make logical sense.

I have added it to the downloads which are now available at the side of this page . Download it, have a good read and if you are still a bit lost give me a call.

NEW MEMBERS NIGHT MEETS READY STEADY COOK!

What a fabulous night we were treated to last night at our New Members and Get Together evening. Once Lady Captain Jane made an introductory talk followed by brief talks by Competitions Secretary Jenny Groom and Handicap Secretary Dawn Butchart we immediately got into the fun part of the evening and it certainly was great fun. Below is a video of the introduction made by our very own 'Ainsley'!!!

All ladies were handed a raffle ticket when they arrived and to pick our teams three tickets were pulled at random for each team. The 'lucky' volunteers were, for the Green Pepper Team Linda Ross, Annette Grewar and Morag Woodcraft. The Red Pepper Team was Rita Ingram, Edith Ralston and Marion Robertson. The Green Broccoli Team was Heather McLaren, Margaret Young and Margaret Knight and the Brown Mushroom Team was Rhona McGeoghegan, Cath McNab and Sandy Bushby.

Each Team were given a host of ingredients to choose from and then 10 minutes to make a platter of canapes. Each team were judge by the floor on presentation and use of ingredients. We all watched eagerly as the teams ran around trying to make the platter in the time provided and 'Ainsley' just running around!!

Then again our 'Ainsley' did the Ready Steady Cook count down - see below!

We were all asked to vote and as you can see from the photo below it was a tough call!!

However the eventual winners were the Green Broccoli Team of Heather McLaren, Margaret Knight and Margaret Young. Very Well done!!

Following the wonderful entertainment, the Centre very kindly provided us with a hot and cold buffet.

The whole night was just a joy! Our thanks go to Lady Captain Jane for looking after us so well, also a huge thank you to Chris Strugis who thought up this whole evening and took time to go and purchase all the ingredients, brought along all the equipment such as aprons (check out Rhona's!!) chopping boards etc. So well done Chris. But the star of the evening apart from the 'volunteers' was of course Centre Manager David Norman who really threw himself into the part of 'Ainsley' and was so entertaining!
Thank you to all!! Strathmore Ladies really is a fun place to be!!

Below is a link to loads of photos of the night so sit back and enjoy! Beacause there are so many photo's I have made two slide shows as the program only seems to take up to a certain size. (sorry!) Just click on number 1 then number 2!

    ST. PARTICK'S DAY RACE NIGHT

Around 50 members and members guests came along to enjoy another of David's fun nights at Strathmore.

We started the night with the most wonderful 'Irish Themed' menu which was extremely hearty!

Then we all took part in a 'Irish' quiz which was one by the table of Charlie and Kay Davidson, Janet & Trevor Griffiths and Dawn and Iain Butchart and with only scoring 10 out of 20 just showed how hard it was!!!

Then the main event of the night....The Race Night. It was great fun with lots of banter, fun and loads of laughs. As you can see from the photo's above David supplied lots St Patrick day Hats and glasses which were great fun. All the staff wore special green Tee Shirts it really was a superb night.

There were 7 races in total so well done to all the winners, hard lines to all the losers and lets start looking forward to the next event on the Social Calendar! Many thanks again to David and his team for a great evenings entertainment.

  • MAIL ON SUNDAY

Strathmore Ladies took part in the Mail on Sunday competition at Dunkeld on Saturday. The team consisted of Sandy Bushy, Alexandra Bushby, Dawn Butchart, Janet Griffiths and Sheena Scott.

The competition is played in 5 single knockout ties. There is a point for a win and half a point for a half. Sheena Scott was in the first tie and was narrowly beaten on the 18th. Next up was Janet Griffiths who won her tie 3&2, following Janet was Sandy Bushby who was victorious on the 18th green. She was followed by Dawn Butchart who was beaten on the 17th and last was Alex Bushby who halved her tie. This left the overall match 2.5 to 2.5. Therefore under the rules of the competition the last tie must go back to the first tee and play sudden death until there is an eventual winner.

As you can see Alex and her opponent Anne went back off down the 19th which they halved. Then onto the 20th where Alex was giving a shot and unfortunately both players had a 5 which meant of course that Dunkeld make it to the next round.
It is not easy playing away from home especially on a course such as Dunkeld however I do think the team did us all proud by playing so well and making a such a close game of it!
    Well done all.
